Daria – MTV Cartoon Character
Apart from Beavis and his companion Butt-Head, Daria is the other most famous MTV cartoon character. She is a teenage girl who is as smart as she is antisocial. She is totally unlike her sister Quinn, who is one of the most popular girls in school, constantly seeking everybody’s attention. Daria, on the other hand, rather likes to observe the people than to associate with them.

For lovers of cartoons, the fictional character of Daria Morgendorffer would not sound strange. The character made her first appearance on TV screens in the animated series Beavis and Butt-head, an MTV animation and went on to appear in Daria.
Daria’s character grew in popularity and she was widely accepted resulting in TV Guide ranking her number 41 on the list. The character was developed by Glen Eichler to be a smart female in the animated series Beavis and Butt-head. In Beavis and Butt-head, Daria’s character was an intelligent character created to foil the two major characters in the series.
Her first appearance came with a minor role where she had to answer to questions that came from Van Driessan. She went on to come with mixed roles in her later appearances. While she was irritated by the lead characters in some episodes, she found some amusement in their stupidity in other episodes.
The Daria character also made some appearances in the adaptation of the TV show by Marvel Comics. It also appeared on the cover of one issue. Another appearance of Daria came in Beavis and Butt-head Do America which was a film and she only appeared once in the film.
Beavis and Butt-head were followed by the Daria series were Daria appeared unfashionably dressed and her character was one with high intellectuals and a very pessimistic one. Daria resided with her family that comprised of her sister who was obsessed with fashion, and her parents Helen and Jake, who are the career-obsessed ones.
You might call this selfish, but there was no mention of Beavis and Butt-head in Daria’s show. Daria’s character was described in different words by different persons. Some regarded her as a shame to her parents that wanted a whole lot from her and an embarrassment to her sister that was not only fashion-obsessed but also obsessed with boys. Other critiques labelled her as the anti-cheerleader and unsocial character in an animation that was full of makeup and crayon.
The Daria character and the animated series and films she appeared in met mixed reactions from the audience and critiques but in summary, it can be said to be a widely accepted character and a very popular one at that and this is evidenced by the fact that Daria’s voice was for Garmin and TomTom GPS systems with jokes and putdowns being recorded.
