Tom and Jerry – The Famous Cartoon Duo
Tom and Jerry are such a famous cartoon duo, that one cannot mention one’s name and miss out the other’s. They first appeared in 1940, but their popularity is still fresh up to present days. Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse are enemies in most of the shorts, but in many of them, they are also shown as friends, who “work” together towards a common goal. Many critics argue that the show features extreme levels of violence, but still it depicts no actual injuries and is presented in a humorous manner. One of the best of Hanna-Barbera and Saturday morning cartoons.
Tom and Jerry full review
The world wide recognizable duo Tom and Jerry was officially created by William Hanna and Joe Barbera William and directed at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio in California. These two intuitive creators have made 114 episodes and thanks to their incredible effort, they won seven Oscars. Tom & Jerry stories were always original and included the constant battle between Tom, the cat, and Jerry, the house mouse. The interesting part of Tom & Jerry cartoons was that they always used various tools and weapons in their battle: axes, guns, bombs, hammers and many more. Even though they are more shown like enemies, they also have had some friendly moments to show us how much the friendship is important.
Tom is the home cat who does nothing every day, unlike his friends, the street cat, who are independent and constantly looking for fun and place to stay. In some scenes, Tom is in love with lady cats and the preparations for his dates are always funny to watch. Other than that, he is busy planning traps with only one goal – to catch Jerry. In one occasion, Tom even has sold his soul to the Devil, but that did not help also. His lack of intelligence is why his evil plans are always backfired on him and he ends up hurting himself.
Unlike Tom, Jerry the mouse is intelligent and smart. Jerry uses far more disturbing tools to torture back the bothering cat. He is usually seen cutting Tom’s tale, slicing him in half, bumping his head with a hammer, shovel and what not! The mouse often irons Tom’s tale or gets him electrocuted with a little help from his friends – the big yard dog and his mouse friend.
The biggest mystery from Tom & Jerry cartoon was the mysterious black lady, named Mammy Two Shoes. She works as a maid and is taking care of her house, where Tom lives along with Jerry. The face of Mammy Two Shoes has never been shown, except in the episode “Saturday Evening Puss”. Most of the time, she is shown holding a broom or Tom’s tail in her hands, climbing on a chair or taking care of the mess that Tom and Jerry made.
